Modern Boston Massacre

The Boston Marathon, held on Patriot’s DayBoston Marathon Massacre, was concluded with the explosion of two devices, leaving many wounded and a few killed. This event will be the start of something commonplace in American society as states, cities, and the nation moves towards a humanistic, progressive, socialist, anti-God civil government and culture. The event is sad, no matter how theological we speak, however it’s causes cannot be overlooked.

If we learn anything from this event it should be the effects of abandoning God and His law. News anchors can speak very quickly of needing prayer and helping one another in this time of destruction, yet their heart is far from God as their life is full of their ways and not God’s ways.

In times past God judged Sodom and Gomorrah for their many sins, especially noted homosexuality, rape, and sexual immorality. God also threatened to judge Nineveh for their sins, sending Jonah as His messenger to call the nation to repentance. This theme is repeated in history when institutions replace God as the sovereign.

The “event” that occurred at the Boston Marathon was not something that had no cause. The deaths and injuries were not caused for no reason. If anything is to be the cause of this it would be God. Given that Massachusetts has been on the front-line of fighting against marriage, redefining what it is, creating a safe haven for homosexuals, and removing God from the institution itself, there is no surprise that God would eventually pour out His wrath. Yes, when disaster comes to a city, it is the Lord that has done it. (Amos 3:6)

We can begin to see this judgment from God to be a common occurrence. God is judging the sinners and, “Though they know God’s decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.” (Romans 1:26). These attacks, whether it be from Muslims, Bolshevists, Iranians, etc, are the result of abandoning God. America is not a Christian nation. We can put “In God We Trust” all over our inflated, fiat currency, but if America really trusted in God, then she wouldn’t practice her whoring, blood lusting, lying, invading, and perversion of individual liberty. I think Westboro Baptist Church has it right on this point; God will judge the sinners in history.

It should also be noted that God is judging the church. While we suffer from the actions of violent, unrighteous men that become political leaders, we also suffer from our actions or neglect to take action. I cannot recall how many times I have heard Christians state that God’s law is not binding. These Christians will die on the hill of “No longer binding” but then turn around and create their own political system. Christians have abandoned God’s ways for their own ways. They don’t want God’s law, they want their own. This is the antithesis of repentance and faith in God. If Christians truly were repentant and had faith in God, then they would recognize that God’s law is the standard, for all areas of life. If they truly had faith in Christ and the law of God, then they would trust that His way is the way it should be.

God has declared “Thou shall not murder”, and Christians love this and would try to keep that law in place, yet when it comes to sodomy, “gay marriage”, the FED, war, international policy, and domestic rights, the rules of the game have suddenly changed. At that point God’s law no longer has jurisdiction, while their opinions take over. This is the very thing Jesus spoke against.

“”Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.” “Matthew 23:23

Jesus goes so far as to set justice in the civil realm, and mercy in our personal lives as being weightier than offerings. So many Christians today have put on a robe of hypocrisy and worldliness, claiming it to be piety and submission to governing authorities, when they are really not loving God or their neighbor. Love to God and our neighbor includes giving justice. This is where the church has failed. We as Christians should demand that civil government give the death penalty to murderers, and we should demand this on the basis of Scripture.

““Whoever takes a human life shall surely be put to death.” Leviticus 24:17

However, Scripture also tells us this,

“If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.” Leviticus 20:13

If Christians are to ever speak about Truth and how civil government should function, then it better be from Scripture. No man has a right to put his thoughts and opinions above God’s, for to do so would promise a coming judgment. There is no standard higher than God’s. Government an institution from God, and to deny our place in it would be to deny what God has established. It is for our good that government punish evildoers, for the law of God is for the unrighteous.

“Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine, in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted.” 1 Timothy 1:6-11

These laws are upheld by Paul, and are nothing new. Paul is paraphrasing the laws of God given for government.

Unholy and profane – (There are many examples)

“You shall not give any of your children to offer them to Molech, and so profane the name of your God: I am the LORD.” Leviticus 18:21

“”Say to the people of Israel, Any one of the people of Israel or of the strangers who sojourn in Israel who gives any of his children to Molech shall surely be put to death. The people of the land shall stone him with stones. I myself will set my face against that man and will cut him off from among his people, because he has given one of his children to Molech, to make my sanctuary unclean and to profane my holy name. And if the people of the land do at all close their eyes to that man when he gives one of his children to Molech, and do not put him to death, then I will set my face against that man and against his clan and will cut them off from among their people, him and all who follow him in whoring after Molech. “If a person turns to mediums and necromancers, whoring after them, I will set my face against that person and will cut him off from among his people. Consecrate yourselves, therefore, and be holy, for I am the LORD your God.” Leviticus 20:2-7

Strike their mother and father –

““Whoever strikes his father or his mother shall be put to death.” Exodus 21:15

Murderers – (Quoted above)

Sexually immoral –

Leviticus 20, Deuteronomy 22

Homosexuals (Sodomites) – (Quoted above)

Enslavers –

““Whoever steals a man and sells him, and anyone found in possession of him, shall be put to death.” Exodus 21:16

Liars –

“”A single witness shall not suffice against a person for any crime or for any wrong in connection with any offense that he has committed. Only on the evidence of two witnesses or of three witnesses shall a charge be established. If a malicious witness arises to accuse a person of wrongdoing, then both parties to the dispute shall appear before the LORD, before the priests and the judges who are in office in those days. The judges shall inquire diligently, and if the witness is a false witness and has accused his brother falsely, then you shall do to him as he had meant to do to his brother. So you shall purge the evil from your midst. And the rest shall hear and fear, and shall never again commit any such evil among you. Your eye shall not pity. It shall be life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.” Deuteronomy 19:15-21

Paul uses the Old Testament as his standard for what the law is used for, while establishing God’s law as the standard for civil government. The law is not just meant for our personal lives (since the death penalty requires a trial) but it intended for unrighteous men who have wrong their neighbor. If we truly want a law that can deal justly and equally, then it is God’s law. Until we as Christians, and America, recognizes this fact we will continue down the road of terrorist attacks, domestic unrest, and inheriting curses from the sins of former generations.

If we truly loved our neighbor, then we as Christians would take this opportunity to repent. We would do what we should be doing; evangelizing, teaching sound doctrine, ministering through the civil government, shrinking the government and fulfilling our duties to take care of the poor, widows, and orphans.

Americans, if you are wondering why this event would happen, look to God and see His holy, righteous standard as being the law that will judge every individual, and repent. Turn from your ways, your opinions about morality, Truth, and purpose, trust in Him and His Son Jesus Christ, and be baptized for the remission of sins. Things will only get worse, leading to utter destruction of this nation. We must repent from our sins and truly trust in Christ as our Savior. His kingdom will prevail either way: the concern is what kingdom you’re in.
